Bengali cultural program in Montreal to celebrate 1st anniversary of Global Alliance

Montreal (31January 2026) – Global Alliance against Atrocity and Violence on Humanity, a Montreal based human rights organization led by Ishrat Alam, a prominent minority and women rights activist and mainstream politician celebrated its 1st anniversary at 6767 Cote des Neiges, Montreal showcasing Bengali cultural heritage through performance of musical soiree, classical dance, recital of poems by reputed artists from Montreal and a guest artist from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Children of a dance school in Montreal also performed in the program. People of Bengali community in Montreal gathered in the auditorium to enjoy the event.

The program was conducted by Naznin Nisha, Shafina Karim and Jahangir Syed. The event started with singing the National Anthem of Canada by Cicilia Das.

The Chairperson, Ishrat Alam, delivering her speech on the occasion of the anniversary of Global Alliance.

The Chairperson of Global Alliance, Ms. Ishrat Alam welcomed all the guests and participants in the program. She said that in December 2024 the organization commenced its journey considering the significance of the Victory Day of Bangladesh incorporating three virtues – humanity, culture, and solidarity.

She said that Global Alliance participated in the protest rally in front of the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa against the atrocities and torture of the minority communities and Awami League activists under the present government of Bangladesh led by Prof. Yunus. Awami League of Canada, Ontario and Quebec also participated in the protest.

Global Alliance expressed its solidarity with the minority communities of Bangladesh in their protest organized on 21 January 2026 in downtown Montreal.

She added that a petition about the current situation in Bangladesh was presented in the House of Commons of Canada. Hopefully, we will get something positive in 36 days. She said that it is a collective journey and activism. Sometime ago in Bangladesh, even the students who supports the ideology of 1971, war barred from taking their exams. The Alliance protested this injustice taking signatures of Prof. Sakhawat, Prof. Shishir Bhattacharya, Prof. Ashwat from Kolkata and 15 other professors from Bangladesh. It was published in a few Kolkata newspapers and the page of the Student League.

Global Alliance is working to weaken the force of radicalism from the grassroots level. It will always stand for the minority and women rights all over the world.

Right now, the GDP of Bangladesh has been decreased to 3%-4% while the interim govt. is organizing a referendum spending BDT 3,000 crore. She questioned if the constitution of Bangladesh allows it. She declared that Global Alliance is for the ‘No’ in the so-called referendum. She urged the participants to communicate with the families back in Bangladesh to take a stand against the referendum. She also requested everyone to support the Alliance in its activities and initiatives for humanity.

Ms. Alam interpreted her speech in English as well for a few participants who doesn’t know Bengali.

At one point of the program, she introduced the committee members of Global Alliance to the audience. She also thanked all the sponsors of the program mentioning their names, especially Mr. Shamimul Hassan who was honored as the chief guest of the program as well.

The Chief Guest of the program, Mr. Shamimul Hassan, delivered his speech on the occasion.

In addition to the Chairperson of Global Alliance and the chief guest of the program, the following personalities addressed the audience with their welcoming speeches. They are Mr. C.B. Singh, Honorary Executive, Global Alliance, Mr. Chandrapal Meshram, Executive, Global Alliance, Mr. Tajul Mohammad, Freedom Fighter, author and researcher, Mr. Yakub, Freedom Fighter, Dr. Syed Sakhawat Hossain, Chairman, Udichi, Dr. Shoeb Sayed, Scientist, Saroj Das, General Secretary, Hindu-Buddhist Oikyo Parishad, Mr. Dilip Karmaker, Mr. Dewan Moniruzzaman, President, Bangladesh Association of Montreal, Mr. Manu Halder, Mr. Kallol Som, Mr. Shah Alam Molla, Businessman, Mr. Khandakar Motaleb, Entrepreneur, Mr. Sushant Barua, Adviser, Global Alliance, Ms. Rupa Barua and Mr. Sharif Ullah, President, Bangladesh Society of Canada.

In her vote of thanks, she thanked all the participants, contributors, sponsors, staff and service providers to make the program successful.

At the end, she requested everyone to help her and Global Alliance to successfully organize upcoming Bangladesh Parade in Montreal date of which will be declared later on its website: www.ga3vh.org

In the program, Cicilia Das, Debpriya Kar Ruma, Anuja Chanda, Naznin Nisha, Pranab Mithu and the guest artist from Atlanta, Taslima Sultana Polly sang several modern and classical songs. Jashim and his students from Nrityokona Dance School, Saptarshi Barua, Falguni Sen and Titina Tanu performed classical dance. Uttam, Rabeya, Nisha and Ishrat Alam recited some popular Bengali poems.

Taslima Sultana Polly, the guest artist from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, memerised the audience in Montreal with her musical performance.

The program was ended with singing the national anthem of Bangladesh collectively.

The guests and audience enjoying the Bengali cultural soiree in Montreal on 31 January 2026.

About 200 people from the Bengali community in Montreal braved the severe winter to participated in the program.

All along, the program was very successful.
