GA3VH express Deep Concern Over ICT Verdict in Bangladesh

The Canada-based international human rights organization Global Alliance Against Atrocity and Violence on Humanity (GA3VH) today expressed serious concern over the recent verdict delivered by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). The organization stated that multiple allegations have emerged regarding the lack of transparency, restricted defense rights, and questions about the tribunal’s political neutrality.

GA3VH noted that numerous human rights groups and independent observers have already raised long-standing concerns about shrinking civic space, threats to judicial independence, pressure on the media, and risks faced by minority communities in Bangladesh. The organization warned that such issues become even more troubling when high-profile cases involve claims of withheld evidence, limited access to legal representation, or the suspension of parallel investigations.

“A judicial process can only command legitimacy if it is fair, transparent, and compliant with international human rights standards,” GA3VH said.
“In politically sensitive cases, the presence of independent monitoring and international oversight is essential.”

GA3VH called on the Bangladeshi authorities to:

Release all relevant evidence and documentation linked to the ICT proceedings;

Allow independent legal experts and international observers to review the process;

Protect freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and political participation;

And ensure that upcoming elections are inclusive, credible, and free from coercion.

GA3VH reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the human rights, security, and justice of the people of Bangladesh.
